Follow User
Excerpt: Warm up a prospect before you connect, or follow back new engagement automatically — a low-friction first touch straight from your workflow.
Action Overview
The Follow User action follows a specified LinkedIn user from the connected account. Provide the user's Provider ID — typically retrieved from an earlier step like Search User or Retrieve User Profile. Use it to warm up prospects before sending a connection request, show interest after someone engages with your content, or build familiarity ahead of outreach.
Use Cases
- Pre-Outreach Warm-Up – Follow a prospect before sending a connection request, so your name is already visible in their notifications
- Engagement Follow-Back – Automatically follow new followers or engaged commenters as a low-friction show of interest
- Familiarity Building – Follow target accounts ahead of a broader outreach campaign, so requests don't land cold
Inputs and Required Data
Provider ID (required) – The internal LinkedIn identifier of the user to follow

Obtaining Inputs
- Use Search User or Retrieve User Profile to obtain the Provider ID
- The Provider ID is also available directly from workflow triggers such as New Follower, New Connection, New Post Comment, and New Post Reaction

Example Response (plain text)
Response: UserFollowed
Workflow Integration
- Obtain the Provider ID – From a search/profile action, or directly from a trigger payload
- Add the Follow User Action – Map the Provider ID into the action
- Chain Follow-Up Steps – Add a delay, then send a connection request or a message once familiarity is established
Related Actions
- Search User – Find a user's Provider ID by name or criteria
- Retrieve User Profile – Confirm the right person before following
- Send Invitation – Follow up with a connection request after following
Common Errors and Troubleshooting
Invalid Provider ID
- Cause: The Provider ID doesn't correspond to an existing LinkedIn user
- Solution: Ensure the ID is retrieved from Search User, Retrieve User Profile, or a workflow trigger payload — not typed manually
Best Practices
- Follow before you connect — it's a lower-friction first touch that puts your name in front of the prospect
